Elegant Cognac glasses from Villeroy & Boch

The gems behind the Massif Central

The most precious treasures of the Poitou-Charentes region on the Bay of Biscay are not the white wines whose vines shape the landscape. Hidden in the medieval wine cellars, countless Cognacs mature in barrels made from oak from the neighbouring Limousin region. Those who are lucky enough to visit the cellars can even discover distillates put there in the 19th Century. Only double distillates made from the white wines of the growing regions in and around the Grande Champagne can be called Cognac. To allow the often complex bouquets of Cognac compositions to develop fully, Villeroy & Boch developed generous Cognac glasses made from crystal glass – so that you can enjoy the moment when the aroma, taste and shape are in perfect harmony.

One more reason to celebrate spring

Cognac is largely distilled from Saint-Émilion during the winter months. The process has to be completed by the end of March, so that the storage period of the fresh double distillate can begin right on time on the first of April each year and older Cognacs are ready to drink. A great reason to invite your friends over for a Cognac dinner and live out the hospitable French dining culture together. A harmonious look for the table is crucial. Together with the tumblers and wine glasses in our glass collections, the Cognac glasses shape the elegant look of the dining or coffee table. To provide a touch of colour, use a decorated Villeroy & Boch tableware set made from premium bone porcelain, or decorate the table with daffodils and other spring flowers.

Tradition has a name

Villeroy & Boch also dedicated itself to the classic Cognac glass as a vital part of refined dining culture. In many of our collections, we use traditional craftsmanship to create the bulbous shape. The beautifully-shaped goblets made from fine crystal glass stand on a stable base with its typical short stem. It is the different types of craftsmanship in this transition that ensure that the Cognac glasses match the design of each collection seamlessly. The thin, clear glass walls allow you to assess the colour of the Cognac quickly and to bring it up to temperature by swirling it gently in your hand. Once you have finished, the empty Cognac glass can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

Around the world in a crystal glass

Although only the double distillates from the region between the Île de Ré and La Roche-Chalais can be called Cognac, many other countries also have delicious brandies for connoisseurs to enjoy. If you cross the Pyrenees to Spain, you will find Europe's most traditional brandies. A Solera Gran Reserva matures for between eight and fifteen years to gain its often sweet, fruity notes. Cognac glasses in the Caucasus are also often filled with local brandy. In the South American countries of Peru and Chile, Pisco, a distillate similar to French Cognac made from grape must, is even the national drink. Pick up a Cognac glass from Villeroy & Boch and let it take you on a tour of the varied world of brandies.
